Charlotte Area History and Information

In the mid 1700s Charlotte, NC  was settled and named in honor of the wife of King George III, who was the king of England.   Mecklenburg county was named in honor of Queen Charlotte's homeland of Germany.  Coining Charlotte as
"The Queen City".

Charlotte is a perfect location for anyone who wants to enjoy the beautiful mountains or scenic beaches.  The "piedmont" means simply that in a couple of hours you can enjoy either!

Charlotte is home to the
U.S. National Whitewater Center 
where you can raft, zipline, bike and more.

If you are a NASCAR fan, Charlotte is perfect for you.  Home to Lowe's Motor Speedway, The NASCAR Hall of Fame and the driver's themselves, Charlotte has it all!

Charlotte won't disappoint the sports fan either. 
We have it all, Carolina Panthers football, Charlotte Bobcats basketball and Charlotte Checkers hockey. 
And, of course, North Carolina boasts some of the best college basketball in the country.

If you love museums, we are the place for you.  The Mint Museum of Art, The Levine Museum of the New South and The Billy Graham library offer plenty of history and fun.

Charlotte is a great place to raise a family.  Discovery Place and its IMAX theatre provide endless learning adventures for children and adults alike.
Carowinds amusement park is a wonderful attraction with roller coasters and a water park for those hot summer days!

If you love the outdoors you are in the right place.  The Charlotte area house countless bike paths, greenways along with Lake Norman and Lake Wylie.
